EDUCATION NEWS

  • The board approved Michele Riise as the new superintendent of Elkhart Community Schools, effective July 1, replacing Dr. Larry Huff who is moving to Rockford Public Schools. Riise, who brings over 38 years of public education experience, will lead elementary programs across the district.  16 News Now
  • Elkhart Community Schools held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the Career Center to mark the completed projects including the Criminal Justice and Community Center, an updated Annex, and a new Health and Strength Center at the high school. The upgrades will expand learning opportunities for students.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Common Council will vote Monday, Feb. 2 on a downtown proposal to create a DORA — a designated outdoor refreshment area where marked alcoholic drinks can be purchased and carried during approved hours. If adopted, the policy will boost local business and enhance vibrancy as summer events draw crowds.  WSBT
