  • The Center for the Homeless will extend its Weather Amnesty program through May to offer help during harsh weather. The service is available at the center for anyone needing shelter from inclement conditions.  16 News Now
  • Residents at Hellenic Senior Living began returning after a pipe burst on Sunday, Dec. 7 damaged the building’s electrical panel—15 had returned by 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the facility expected 100 residents back by week’s end while kitchen services were fully restored.  ABC 57
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace donated over 200 beds to children aged 3 to 17 in the county this year — partnering with local businesses to build full bed sets with frame, mattress, and bedding. The group said delivery day brought hope as kids received an unexpected treat.  ABC 57
  • Residents of Timberbrook Manufactured Homes Community in Bristol report ongoing flooding and a problematic pothole that has damaged vehicles — with temporary repairs planned before a full road replacement next summer.  ABC 57

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NIPSCO reported a spike in utility bills on Jan. 20 as cold weather+rising natural gas prices drove up costs. The company said these factors may influence future adjustments.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MARA announced its new name and role as the county hub for after-school programs, tutoring, mentoring and sports. The organization grew from 12 to 95 partners including groups like the Boys and Girls Club and South Bend Police Athletic League.  WSBT

  • The Delta, a new residential community in Elkhart, hosted its first open house on Tuesday, Jan.20, inviting visitors to tour model homes and learn of upcoming amenities (including green spaces and community centers).  16 News Now
