  • Downtown Goshen hosts the Fire and Ice Festival this Friday with live ice sculpting from 300-pound blocks, fire dancing and interactive ice carvings. The event offers marshmallow roasting, free hot chocolate and creative photo ops to bring community warmth after the holidays.  ABC 57

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Leer Group has moved into the old JCPenney building on former Concord Mall property (now part of Concord Business Park) and will transition staff into new offices to optimize truck accessory distribution following the Area Plan Commission's approval.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northern Indiana educators continue to draw on the lessons of Apollo 1 (1967) and Challenger (1986) to teach science and problem-solving through hands-on programs. The local Challenger Learning Center offers simulated missions that honor the fallen astronauts and inspire future engineers.  16 News Now
  • An Elkhart parent raised concerns on Wednesday, Jan. 28 about a Ruby Bridges assignment used at a local school, saying the use of the assignment may blur historical context & could prompt school officials to review teaching methods.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Elkhart is applying for $4 million through an EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant to clean up arsenic and lead at the Old Roundhouse in Benham West; the application is due by the end of January and cleanup would take 8 to 12 weeks if approved.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lifelong Hoosier fans gathered at Waterford Crossing Senior Living Community in Goshen on Tuesday to celebrate their alma mater’s undefeated season — a late-night victory that sparked fond campus memories.  ABC 57
  • Former Goshen College women's basketball starter Zion Neat became the school’s first pro player and will join the Eurobasket league in Portugal after her visa is approved — she could debut by Feb. 7.  ABC 57
