ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out in one room at Pangford Motel at 1640 East McKinley Avenue—just after 10 p.m. Tuesday—and led to an evacuation as one woman was taken to a hospital for minor injuries while the Mishawaka Fire Department investigates the cause and the Red Cross aids displaced guests.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders in Elkhart decided to build a new fire station near the Lane Street Groundwater Superfund site after a March 2023 environmental assessment found no hazardous substances or vapor exposure at the site—easing earlier contamination concerns. The EPA said water flows away from the area and pilot cleanup studies at the active superfund will begin later this year.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Allergy season has begun in Michiana as warming weather makes plants bloom—raising pollen levels for local residents. Forecasts show that pollen counts will reach moderate to high levels over the next few days—mainly due to maple and juniper trees.  ABC 57
  • Indiana officials say bird flu numbers remain high after tests show the virus is like what is found in wild birds such as sandhill cranes and waterfowl—backyard flock owners are advised to be cautious and may soon be eligible for federal aid to cover cleanup and lost birds.  16 News Now

  • The Bobcats defeated Grandville Calvin Christian 43—25 in the state quarterfinals on Tuesday night and advanced in the tournament, with their strong team play setting up more exciting matches ahead.  16 News Now
