  • The Nappanee Public Library is planning a multi-phase renovation that will start with updates to the children’s department and then expand to include the programming space, teen area, and general collection before finishing with a new meeting room complex. All library services will continue during the work, and groundbreaking is expected before the end of 2025.  ABC 57

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A neighbor showed ABC57’s Jackie Bauer damage from trees falling on his home and those of two neighbors during Sunday storms — residents are still cleaning up damage from an EF1 tornado that swept through less than a block away last July — as the neighborhood braces for more severe weather.  ABC 57

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warns that scammers are targeting people with severe weather damage by offering high repair prices and false insurance claims (officials advise checking the BBB scam tracker and verifying charities before giving money).  WSBT

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday morning, police responded to a home on the 1700 block of Frances Avenue after a known man entered without permission armed with a handgun and fired—threatening a male victim and causing abrasions—before fleeing; authorities said no one was hit and the case remains under investigation.  ABC 57

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana Michigan Power and recovery crews cleared storm damage that left thousands without power, including cutting down a large pine tree that hit a power pole. The 127 utility workers are checking damage and preparing for more storms today with extra crews coming in from several states.  16 News Now

FINANCE NEWS

  • A local insurance representative said homeowners should check their insurance coverage after recent storm damage because a tree in a yard may not be covered. Homeowners must stay safe, document damage and get estimates from a licensed contractor—then consider their deductible before filing a claim.  WSBT
