ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A viewer-sent video suggests a fire burned at a repair shop near an RV plant at U.S. 20 and State Road 13 in Middlebury after severe weather.  16 News Now
  • On Wednesday morning, heavy rain caused a 32-year-old Niles woman driving a 2004 Toyota Avalon to hydroplane on U.S. 20—east of the west county line—and hit the median; another driver provided assistance and authorities transported her to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor neck pain while the vehicle was towed.  ABC 57
  • An early morning barn fire on Riverdale Drive near Old US 20 in Elkhart was brought under control by fire crews after a call at 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday—no one was injured, the barn collapsed, and officials said the building had been damaged by Sunday's storms with no animals inside.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Elkhart County Historical Museum in Bristol invites the community to attend a talk on baseball history today at 7 p.m.—curator of education Jenifer Blouin Policelli will discuss local figures from corporate teams to professional leagues and offer free concessions. The museum will hold a mini-camp on April 11 from 10 a.m. to noon for children ages 8 to 12 with a $10 fee per child and limited spaces that require online registration by April 10.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Braun signed new Indiana high school diploma requirements that include a Honors Plus Seal giving students paths for college, trade apprenticeships, or service in the Indiana National Guard. The law will apply to schools that opt in this fall for the 2028-2029 school year—each seal offering a specific pathway to further opportunities.  16 News Now
  • This fall, Concord Community Schools will launch full-day preschool classes in each of its four elementary buildings (serving 80 students) while South Bend Community School Corporation will expand to offer 19 free preschool classes in 14 buildings. Experts say these programs boost kindergarten readiness (and support future literacy) and may help narrow early learning gaps.  WSBT

  • South Shore Line officials launched a rider survey to gather input for a new 20-year strategic plan and the survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. (CT) on April 10th.  ABC 57
  • Elkhart County commissioners approved the courthouse lawn use for a protest scheduled for this Saturday and discussed billing protesters for police protection—Sheriff Jeff Siegel said his force is willing to consider the idea.  16 News Now
