  • Potawatomi Zoo is launching a $5.5 million project called Big Cat Tracks to build a new habitat for big cats. It is the zoo's first expansion in many decades.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Day held Tuesday at Ivy Tech campuses in South Bend and Goshen brought alumni and community members together to raise funds for scholarships and wrap-around services that support students from high school to adult learners. The funds will support more than 200,000 students across 19 campuses and strengthen career-training programs ahead of a fundraising gala at Four Winds Casino on May 2.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elkhart's common council committee reviewed a proposed Rental Registry and Inspection program that would require landlords to register their rental units annually and have them inspected every three years for safety in about 8,000 units. The program will charge a fee of $60 per unit (discounted to $30 for the first 60 months) as it moves forward.  16 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Health confirmed the first measles case in the state in Allen County when an unvaccinated child was infected—health officials are checking if more cases have occurred. The child shows signs like a rash, fever and cough, and officials say the risk to the public is low.  WSBT

  • Former Notre Dame basketball star Olivia Miles shocked fans last week by skipping the WNBA Draft to enter the transfer portal. She will transfer to TCU to continue her college career.  16 News Now
  • South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart described fan expectations for Tuesday night's home opener against the Peoria Chiefs — he outlined plans for special in-game features and a welcoming atmosphere as the Cubs returned to Michiana after a season road opener.
