COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jo Fisher started the Ben Fisher Foundation — after her son died in a work zone crash in Kosciusko County in 2019 — to honor his memory and raise road safety awareness. The foundation collected money from oncoming traffic last Friday and is urging changes in traffic and workplace safety laws as Governor Mike Braun named April Workplace Awareness Month.  16 News Now
  • Sixty years ago on April 11th—when 47 tornadoes swept our area—the worst Palm Sunday outbreak killed 82 and injured nearly 700. Local reporters collected memories from survivors—such as the sisters from Sunnyside—to honor the victims.  WSBT
  • The Indiana Dinosaur Museum hosted an Easter egg hunt on April 11th, is hosting it today, and will host it on April 13th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise funds for Scouting America on its 100-acre property—20,000 eggs are hidden with donations at $10 per dozen—participants also enjoy free face painting, coloring, photos with the Easter bunny, a petting zoo, and wagon rides while museum admission still applies.  WSBT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded at 8:20 p.m. last Thursday to River Run Apartments at 740 Prairie St, after reports of smoke and found a small trash fire in a first-floor kitchen that was quickly controlled—no one was hurt and the cause remains under investigation.  ABC 57
  • After a deadly crash near Concord High School on Thursday morning, police identified 74 year old Rigoberto Padilla as the victim— the driver from the other car is in stable condition at a hospital while officers continue to investigate the accident.  WSBT

CRIME NEWS

  • Regis Owens, a South Bend man linked to a March 4 investigation that found fentanyl capable of killing over 566,000 people, was arrested in Texas on Wednesday and now awaits extradition to St. Joseph County—police said he fled before the warrant was served.  16 News Now

  • Governor Mike Braun declared a state of disaster emergency in 18 counties including Marshall due to tornado, storm, and flood damage - officials said recovery efforts will soon begin.  WSBT
