- ➤ Elkhart’s Vibrant Communities block grant program has awarded Lauren Sedillo a grant to start a tool library along the 100 and 200 blocks of Division and State Streets to give neighbors free access to household and lawn tools—this project aims to help residents learn new skills and work together; Sedillo said the library will open by June. - ➤ The Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo will host its 11th annual 'Bigger is Better' Easter Egg Hunt on April 20th at 3 p.m. at Bens Barnes Park (1318 S. 6th Street) to honor the late Miss Peggy Curry Thomas. Organizers plan to hide over 15,000 eggs and give each child a bag with 25-50 candies while accepting donations today from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and on April 17th during the same hours. 16 News Now
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 14-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle Monday evening near the intersection of County Road 42 and County Road 33 in Elkhart County and was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, while police said a 17-year-old driver hit her and drugs did not appear to be a factor (her condition is unknown) (the investigation is ongoing). - ➤ A 14-year-old Goshen girl riding her bike was hit by a 17-year-old Syracuse boy driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado on Monday around 5:55 p.m. near the intersection of C.R. 33 and C.R. 42, and she suffered injuries to her face, left ankle and left shoulder before being airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend while deputies investigate the crash. - ➤ Four Benton Harbor residents—Consuela Bridgeman, Juanita Clark, Timika Swanson and Kamerion Tillman—were arrested after a theft was reported Monday, with police recovering stolen property from multiple Goshen businesses including Target and Spencer’s. WSBT

- ➤ Today is World Art Day—an annual celebration—and the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart is showcasing new exhibits, yoga sessions, and a scavenger hunt. Director Brian Byrn—head of the museum—appeared on WNDU 16 News Now at Noon. 16 News Now

- ➤ The ACLU of Indiana filed a lawsuit against the federal government on behalf of seven international students whose visas were revoked without explanation, alleging that the Department of Homeland Security violated due process and asking the court to reinstate their status so the students can continue their studies at universities such as Notre Dame, IUPUI, and Purdue. 16 News Now
