  • Marcus Freeman spoke at the 50th annual Moose Krause Memorial Foundation awards dinner, where young scholar-athletes from Michiana were honored for achievements both on and off the field — the event celebrated academic success and community involvement.  16 News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police responded Monday night at 6:55 p.m. to a crash at 100 Joyce Ct. and E Jackson Boulevard when a 20-year-old woman driving a Mercury Mariner turned onto E Jackson Boulevard and hit a motorcycle ridden by a 42-year-old man who sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital—police said the investigation is ongoing.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested four people on Monday after a warrant search of an Elkhart apartment revealed 356 grams of synthetic marijuana—along with meth, guns and drug paraphernalia—and each suspect now faces multiple charges with bond set at varying amounts.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph County declared an emergency to seek aid that, if approved, will reimburse local governments for work done immediately after the storms. The move comes as county officials look to help communities recover faster.  16 News Now
  • Governor Mike Braun declared a state of emergency on April 16th for counties including Elkhart to help recover costs for businesses, first responders, and government agencies after severe storms in late March and early April; county emergency management director Jennifer Tobey said affected residents should contact her office for help (such as obtaining a weather radio).  WSBT
