  • Organizers of the Raising Successful Families summit say it will offer free guidance on improving communication among spouses, parents and children + building financial stability for local families.  16 News Now
  • Community members gathered Friday at Madison Oyster Bar in South Bend to honor Kaylon Woods, a local teacher, coach, and community pillar who was fatally shot in Elkhart last Monday. Friends and family shared memories that highlighted his lasting impact.  WSBT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gray Media reached an agreement with DISH to restore its local stations including WNDU so customers can once again watch local news, weather and sports. The change is effective immediately.  16 News Now
  • A month-long lockout ended after NIPSCO reached contracts with United Steelworkers; field workers returned on April 24 while clerical workers will resume work on May 5 in Merrillville.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michiana teachers and school staff can receive two free tickets to Teacher Appreciation Night on June 10 at Four Winds Field offered by the South Bend Cubs and Legacy.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Small Business Administration is offering disaster loans for Michiana communities hit by March tornadoes; Physical Damage applications must be submitted by June 29 (deadline) while Economic Injury loans need to be applied for by Jan 28.  16 News Now
  • Indiana Governor Mike Braun said he plans to decide in the coming days whether to extend the 7% gas tax suspension that began on April 8 and is set to expire next week. The decision could help local families pay less at the pump.  16 News Now
