BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local florists are facing a 10% tariff on imported flowers but are keeping prices steady by using local and seasonal options. Mary Green and Greg Powell said pre-booking orders and well-timed shipments have softened the impact—though additional tariff costs may force future price changes.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • WNDU took home 12 awards from the Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists on Friday night—earning three first-place awards, five second-place awards, three third-place awards, and a First Amendment Award—and received praise for addressing tough topics with clear storytelling. A team member also won a first-place investigative reporting award for her work on Last Days Locked Up at her previous station.  16 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New documents show that 570 RV industry workers will be laid off in late June from facilities across Michiana. The largest layoff is at Cruiser RV in Howe with 251 workers, and Heartland RV will let go of 147 from its Elkhart and Middlebury sites plus 121 at its Sturgis plant while DRV RV in Howe will cut 51 jobs — all companies are affiliated with THOR Industries.  16 News Now

  • Elkhart City Council passed the new Rental Inspection Program Monday night, which verifies that rental properties have working heating, safe wiring, and solid structures—protecting the health and safety of residents.  ABC 57
  • The Indiana Toll Road repair project PUSH 4.0 will start Saturday, May 10 along the road between mile markers 127 & 157. Drivers are advised to expect single lane closures in both directions in the work zone.  16 News Now
  • Indiana lawmakers voted on May 5 to ban marijuana advertising in Michiana—retailers will need to follow new state guidelines in the coming months.  16 News Now
