- ➤ Notre Dame partnered with Visit South Bend to launch the new Irish Eatz video series—showing Michiana restaurants and linking the athletics program with the local dining scene. The series began on May 7 and is expected to boost community interest in local eateries. 16 News Now
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Authorities reported a three-vehicle crash at the S.R 120 and C.R 17 intersection when an eastbound vehicle failed to stop for traffic and hit a second vehicle, which pushed a third vehicle—drivers of the first two vehicles were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital and Elkhart General Hospital while no one in the third vehicle was injured. - ➤ On Nov. 3, 2024, a shooting on County Road 3 in Elkhart left co-owner Romulo Reyes dead and another man fatally injured while 23-year-old Joshua Martinez was arrested and now faces trial claiming self-defense—his attorney said he acted after the victims allegedly threatened him. 16 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Elkhart City Council passed the Rental Inspection Program to protect residents by requiring rental properties to have functioning heating systems, safe electrical wiring and structurally sound buildings—this program will be enforced fairly and transparently to improve living conditions in the city. - ➤ Indiana Toll Road Exit 92 in Elkhart will be closed starting tomorrow for pavement and toll equipment upgrades — drivers will be rerouted to Exit 96 until the plaza reopens on May 11. ABC 57
- ➤ Indiana now requires travelers to show a Real ID‐compliant driver’s license or another approved ID to board domestic flights, as the new rules took effect Tuesday. Travelers without compliant IDs will face extra security screenings—officials said valid US passports are an acceptable alternative. ABC 57

- ➤ Juday Creek Golf Course in Granger is preparing to rebuild its clubhouse that burned down last August and currently operates from a temporary shed until permits allow construction of a new facility — one that will include more storage, a golf simulator and a new sprinkler system. State Sen. Linda Rogers, owner of the course, said the design will follow new commercial codes while restoring key amenities for golfers. 16 News Now
