COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, a power outage affected Bremen and Nappanee as NIPSCO works to restore service for two substations in Bremen—police report there is no ETA on restoration.  WSBT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to an active house fire on the 500 block of North 8th St. at the intersection of Middlebury St. in Goshen—police asked residents to avoid the area to allow first responders to work safely.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies in Elkhart County found an unresponsive inmate in the medical unit of the Corrections Complex on Sunday at 7am and began CPR before Concord medics pronounced him dead—state investigators including the Homicide Unit and the Coroner are looking into the death.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • From May 17th through Memorial Day, police departments (ISP and La Porte City Police) will issue $25 tickets to drivers without seatbelts to boost road safety during busy travel days. Officers will also target distracted and impaired drivers to reduce injuries from serious crashes.  WSBT
  • Power has been mostly restored in Nappanee, Bremen and parts of Elkhart and Marshall Counties after Sunday evening's outage that left about 3,000 homes and businesses without power at one point, and only a dozen NIPSCO customers remained without electricity Monday morning.  WSBT
