  • Families in Bristol built lemonade stands Monday to get ready for Elkhart County's 11th annual Lemonade Day on June 7. Siblings Zoey and Troy Brooke started their first stand with their dad—mini-events such as a Best Tasting Competition on May 20 and a Shark Tank Pitch Competition on May 28 will give young entrepreneurs a hands-on look at running a business.  ABC 57
  • Hamilton Grove—a faith-based nonprofit retirement community—is inviting the public to attend a free series of weekly retirement planning sessions from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. starting May 27 at its New Carlisle campus, covering topics such as elder law and financial planning, Medicare and Medicaid, home healthcare, memory care and hospice care with funeral planning. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 51-year-old Elkhart woman crashed her motorcycle at around 8:50 p.m. Thursday on C.R. 17—C.R. 4 after taking a curve too fast, and she was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with a painful collar bone and a deep laceration on her left shin.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating the death of an inmate at Elkhart County Correctional Complex on Sunday morning after deputies found the person unresponsive in the jail medical unit—Concord medics pronounced the inmate dead as the Homicide Unit and Coroner began their investigation.  16 News Now
  • The Elkhart Rotary Club on Monday honored Corporal Paul Vandenburg and Patrolman Ethan Pasternak with the Life Bravery Award after they fatally shot Juan Sanchez minutes after he killed two people at Martin’s Super Market on Jan. 27; both officers were injured, with Vandenburg released from the hospital that night and Pasternak spending four days in intensive care.  16 News Now

  • A 50/50 raffle will be held at Four Winds Field to fund the New Prairie junior varsity baseball team after a bus crash—organizers say the event will help cover urgent expenses. The varsity team will take on Penn at the South Bend Cubs home on Wednesday night—fans expect the game to boost local support.  16 News Now
