COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds plans a major expansion by adding a new 47,500 sqft multi-purpose facility, announced on May 14. The project will boost community events at the fairgrounds.  16 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Premier Arts is hosting its annual Tribute to the Arts event in Elkhart, featuring local exhibits and live performances. Additional details (including timing and venue) will be announced soon.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students, alumni and staff gathered at Osolo Elementary today for a farewell event as the school closes for consolidation, with current students moving to Pinewood Elementary (the event blended nostalgia and transition).  WSBT
  • Elkhart Community Schools hosted Unified Champions Game Day today, where elementary students raced, ran relays, tackled hurdles, and attempted long jump. The event highlighted athletic skill and teamwork among the participants.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officers who died in the line of duty were honored at a memorial held Thursday morning as part of National Police Week (through Sunday). Police Chief Andy Whitmyer said community support helps officers face danger as families, officers, and community leaders gathered to pay tribute.  16 News Now
  • An Indiana court approved a compliance order for Karl King Tower after a probe into complaints that the building did not provide heat last winter. NIPSCO is set to begin Community Customer Care Centers (in-person events) on June 2 to help customers understand bills and save energy.  16 News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Adidas 3SSB Tournament (an invite-only basketball showcase) will be held this weekend at the 10-court Mishawaka Fieldhouse, drawing top high school recruits and college coaches. More tournament weekends will follow in May and July.  16 News Now
