- ➤ Elkhart County Parks invites residents to pet and feed American bison and ride a covered wagon at Cook's Bison Ranch on May 31—participants must register online for the $16 event that includes a bison burger meal and an optional van ride from the Oxbow Haus shelter by 10 a.m., with the tour starting at 11 a.m. at the ranch. - ➤ On Sunday at 8:04 a.m., the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reported a 17-year-old driver lost control of his 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser on Old US 20 near Riverview Manor Drive and crashed into a large rock in a front yard—he was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital while his 15-year-old passenger received treatment at Elkhart General Hospital. - ➤ Michigan and Indiana have set strict hours for fireworks during holiday weekends—Michigan allows fireworks from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on the Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day and from June 20th to July 5th at the same times, with a $1,000 fine for violations, while Indiana permits fireworks any day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and until midnight on major holidays. - ➤ On Monday, Congressman Rudy Yakym spoke to Nappanee residents after the Memorial Day parade and stressed honoring families of fallen veterans during a ceremony that included Taps—and a Civil War era cannon was fired twice as part of the event. ABC 57
- ➤ Mishawaka officials say that after reopening for emergency vehicles only, the Cedar Street Bridge will open to all traffic in early July—construction continues on the $7.9 million project that expands the Riverwalk pathway and adds a connection at Marvin’s River Garden. 16 News Now
