  • Mama T's Diner in LaPorte is collecting donations for Deputy Jon Samuelson and his family after he was shot while helping a stranded motorist at Franciscan Health on May 22 — the diner accepts cash contributions and sticky note messages from locals.  16 News Now

  • Amish Acres held a community meeting yesterday to share updates on volunteer opportunities and business plans ahead of a county kitchen inspection; more details on the opening will be provided if the inspection passes.  WSBT
  • Callahan’s Restaurant Family Dining will open a new location at Starlight Square outlet along Cassopolis Street this summer. The family favorite, which closed its longtime site in March after 42 years, returns to serve local diners.  WSBT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Starting in June, Indiana Michigan Power will lower rates for customers, cutting bills by about 3.6% or roughly $6 plus expecting additional revenue from extra power sales; the change was approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elkhart officials advise drivers to obey posted traffic restrictions on Bristol Street today as the two-year construction continues; they warn that ignoring the one-way rule has led to worker injuries, and the project will eventually expand the road to three lanes, with work expected to wrap up by November.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • New food insecurity numbers from the Indiana Youth Institute show child hunger in Elkhart County rising from 10% to nearly 17% on World Hunger Day (Thursday). Cultivate Food Rescue collects food from farms, retailers and grocery stores to help families in need.  16 News Now
