COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Tolson Center for Community Excellence hosted the Summer Kickoff Event with the Elkhart Police Department where community members enjoyed free food, a live DJ, games for kids, and a chance to meet local officers. The event also featured bike training to teach kids safe riding and stressed that helmets are needed — helmets can be obtained from the Elkhart County Health Department. ABC 57
- ➤ Middlebury Food Pantry launched its Summer Feeding program to provide meals for local kids – led by Executive Director Pam Bingaman – and it will run through the summer. ABC 57
- ➤ Oxbow Park in Goshen hosted an Animal Meet and Greet this afternoon — families learned handling tips for safely encountering wildlife — and the event featured American Toad, Western Hognose Snake and Eastern Box Turtle. ABC 57
- ➤ The Minority Health Coalition will host its 21st annual community baby shower on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tolsen Center of Excellence—100 families with expecting children or children under two will receive free baby supplies such as bottles, books, wipes and diapers and learn about health disparities during pregnancy. - ➤ Sweet Cycle Rides is hosting monthly bike rides this summer at local ice cream shops with free ice cream for the first 20 registrants—paid for by Friends of the Elkhart County Parks group. Riders will meet at set locations on June 13, July 26, and August 9, covering 10 to 12 cycling miles each and needing online registration by the day prior to each event. ABC 57

- ➤ On Sunday, June 8 at 3 p.m., the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery will host Final Kindness: The Rituals & Meaning of Jewish Burial with Rabbi Kuppel Lindow and Bekki Lindow. The free event, organized by the Elkhart County Historical Museum and Michiana Jewish Historical Society, will offer insights into Jewish funeral practices and require registered guests to dress respectfully — entry is through the Calhoun Street gate.
