- ➤ Elkhart’s Salvation Army served 40-dozen free donuts to veterans and active-duty service members on Friday to honor their sacrifice and mark the 81st anniversary of the D-Day invasion. The donuts were available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the downtown parking lot where volunteers known as the Donut Lassies prepared the treats. WSBT
- ➤ Families in need near Bristol are receiving extra help from The HUB’s Adopt-A-Family program which offers $10 for dairy staples and $25 for toiletry items as it serves over 200 families today — up from 70 when the program began three years ago — with donations available monthly or as one-time gifts. - ➤ Deputies responded at 5:39 p.m. Thursday near S.R. 19 and Roseland Road to a two-vehicle crash in which Dixie Athy, 64, driving a 2015 Chevy, failed to yield and was struck on the driver's side by a 67-year-old man in a 2002 GMC truck—Athy was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and subsequently arrested for OWI after a blood test. - ➤ Smoke from wildfires in Canada is drifting into Michiana because of strong winds — experts warn that the haze could worsen breathing problems for those with conditions like asthma. Models predict that air quality will get even worse as the weekend goes on — residents should try to limit outdoor time and use air filters to protect their health. ABC 57

- ➤ The South Bend Medical Foundation is hosting several blood drives in June across Michiana—donors will receive free t-shirts, snacks and drinks after giving blood.
