ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Deputies in Elkhart County responded to a two-vehicle crash at Old US Highway 20 and C.R. 1 on Monday at 3:19 p.m. when a 63-year-old Osceola driver disregarded a stop sign while turning east and was hit by a Chevy Silverado driven by a 57-year-old man, leaving him with left arm pain that sent him to Elkhart General Hospital while his passenger received treatment for a left arm laceration—he was cited for having no insurance.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The outside lanes at the Cleveland Road and Portage Avenue intersection are temporarily closed for signal improvement work—causing delays for local drivers—through the rest of the week.  16 News Now
  • County commissioners held an emergency meeting and approved a plan to replace the dual boiler system at the County Correctional Center — the $668,000 fix is needed to keep heat and hot water for 800 inmates — after one boiler was under repair and the other began failing this weekend. The new system will be installed within the next 6 weeks to prevent further issues.  WSBT
  • Crews are repairing the State Road 13 bridge over the Toll Road between County Road 2 and County Road 4 near Stone Lake, and the summer closure has forced drivers onto an official detour while some choose shortcuts that cause heavy traffic on no-truck residential roads—residents and sheriff’s officers are concerned about noise and safety as the bridge is set to reopen in September.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Memorial Hospital now uses the new EOS Imaging System that employs low-dose radiation and advanced AI to capture 2D and 3D images—this state-of-the-art device is the first of its kind in northern Indiana. Tina Caparo benefited from more precise diagnosis and treatment after her back surgery—her care has improved with better imaging.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tommy Janton from Notre Dame won the USA Swimming national title and earned a spot on the United States National Team—he will travel to Singapore in July for the World Aquatics Championships.  16 News Now
  • Elkhart High School’s Unified Track Team won its second state title in a row by beating Penn High School by four points—scoring 123 points at the state meet. Officials said the win marks the third overall state title for Unified Track, a program that lets students with and without disabilities compete together.  ABC 57
