ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 90-year-old man died today at 12:30 p.m. on North Main Street in Nappanee when he turned in front of a car while riding his three-wheeled bike—police said no drugs or alcohol were involved and that the road reopened at 2:30 p.m. while the 63-year-old driver was uninjured.  16 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, ABC57’s Summer Horan spoke with Jennifer J. Abrell, co-director of the Midwest Museum of American Art, as she detailed current summer exhibits and programs at the downtown museum in Elkhart. Exhibits include All That Jazz: Artists Expressing Music ending July 13 and People and Places: 1873-2000 until Aug. 10, and the museum hosts a sketch club every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m.—11:00 a.m. until Sept. 3.  ABC 57
  • The 37th annual Elkhart Jazz Festival kicked off Thursday night at Lerner Theatre with Grammy-winning singer Diana Krall headlining a sold-out show—global talent along with local bands made a strong debut. The festival continues today with food vendors and firework displays, and local high schools will perform Saturday morning while free student jazz passes are awarded.  WSBT

  • The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Indiana Corridor announced it received a Summer Learning Labs Grant from the Indiana Department of Education for the second year running. The grant will fund free accelerated lessons in English Language Arts and math for students in grades one to eight — partnering with nine local school districts.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the hottest temperatures of the year are coming, raising the risk of heat stroke as temperatures climb. Dr. David Johnson from St. Joseph Health Systems warns that heat stroke can cause confusion and other symptoms—if you notice these signs, call 911 and drink water every 10 to 20 minutes.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a rigorous three-day tryout at Notre Dame, Hannah Hidalgo has been named to the USA Women’s Basketball team for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup later this month — one of 12 players chosen from 21 tryouts. She will travel to Santiago, Chile from June 28 to July 6 to compete for a spot in the FIBA Women’s World Cup — and she aims to win her third gold medal.  ABC 57
  • The reigning Northern League champion Elkhart Miracle will offer a 1-oz Silver Eagle commemorative coin as a season ticket for all 2025 home games, available online starting June 21—making it a first in organized baseball. The team will defend its title with a home game against the Vikings of Hammond this Saturday at 6 p.m. and will let youth in their jerseys get free entry for the Sunday game against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen.  ABC 57
