ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Lincolnway and Belden Avenue on Monday around 5:46 p.m.—a 58-year-old woman driving a Kia Soul hit a 54-year-old woman driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse amid backed-up traffic, and both were taken to Elkhart General Hospital with pain.  ABC 57
  • Goshen Police are responding to a crash in the 4600 block of Elkhart Road that left injuries and closed eastbound traffic, diverting vehicles onto Glenmore Avenue (officials ask the public to avoid the area).  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • A motorcyclist died after his motorcycle hit a car turning into a driveway on County Road 20 early Monday morning near the U.S. 20 Bypass & County Road 111, while a woman was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death & possession of marijuana.  16 News Now
  • A New York attorney has urged Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker to refile charges after three men placed two stray cats in a trash compactor at a Jayco facility in Middlebury on February 27th; initial charges filed on June 9th were dismissed—officials noted that the act did not prolong the animals’ suffering, while the attorney insists it qualifies as severe animal cruelty.  WSBT

  • The City of Elkhart and The Lerner Theatre are hosting a free concert where Kool and the Gang and The Commodores will perform at Celebration Under The Stars on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at Central Green — the event marks The Lerner Theatre’s 100th anniversary celebration.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three toll plazas on the Indiana Toll Road will be closed overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for safety improvements over several weeks as crews work in three phases. Mishawaka Exit 83 will close from July 21 to August 2 — South Bend West Exit 72 from August 4 to August 23 — and Elkhart East Exit 96 from September 2 to September 29 with signs posted in advance.  WSBT
