CRIME NEWS

  • Today at 7:12 p.m. the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to a rollover crash on 21213 S.R. 120 when 19-year-old Cyanna McKnight lost control of her 2014 Honda Accord, hit a utility pole and rolled before she was arrested for OWI—she was taken to a local hospital for injuries.  ABC 57
  • Police responded after shots were fired near River Run Apartments on Prairie Street in Elkhart just after 5:45 a.m.—a woman who returned to the scene sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital while the investigation continues.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department partnered with Nextdoor, a free social networking site for local families, to share crime alerts, emergency notifications, and safety tips. The department and residents plan to use the site to work together, aiming to keep neighborhoods safe — a step toward stronger community communication.  ABC 57
  • Indiana State Troopers will increase their visible presence on State Road 2 after a meeting with local police and INDOT noted rising reckless driving and accidents. Officials say construction will continue until 2027—prompting the safety measures to help improve driver behavior.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Chief Ice Cream is hosting a fundraiser on July 19th to celebrate National Ice Cream Day early, with 20% of proceeds supporting Make-A-Wish and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation—highlighting a local effort to aid those affected by the condition. The event will feature guest dipper Maddie, a Goshen middle schooler with cystic fibrosis, following a successful charity pint sale last December.  ABC 57
