  • Officials reported that work on the new lodge at Potato Creek State Park continues steadily—construction is expected to bring improved amenities for park visitors soon.  16 News Now
  • With only three days left, the Elkhart County 4-H fair is set to wrap up its run—Latin night will take place on Friday and the Indiana Championship Demolition Derby is scheduled for Saturday before the fair leaves town.  ABC 57

  • Starting October 6, American Airlines will launch a new motor coach service between SBN and O’Hare provided by The Landline Company—running four times a day on a coach that seats 35 and offers Wi-Fi and power outlets so travelers can check in and have their luggage transferred as on a flight. The service will make connecting travel easier for passengers.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • A 37-year-old Goshen man, Turelle Hopkins, was arrested on July 22 after he fought with Elkhart police while exiting a porta potty at McNaughton Park (701 Arcade Ave.) after curfew was in effect, and he now faces charges of battery against a public safety official, resisting law enforcement, and refusal to identify himself.  ABC 57
  • Elkhart authorities ruled the death of 50-year-old Anthony Null a homicide after his body was found in the St. Joseph River near Beardsley Avenue last Thursday — he died from a gunshot and no arrests have been made.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teens and young adults in Elkhart can enroll in a babysitting certification class offered by the Cleveland Township Fire Department and Pro Safety Innovations on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire department on County Road 6—students will earn a 2-year certificate, learn hands-only CPR, and gain skills for caring for children of different ages for $40 with limited spots available.  16 News Now
