- ➤ St. Joe Valley Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Mechanical Contractors donated seven portable A/C units to help residents at Countryside Village trailer park in South Bend after a window A/C ban went into effect—Martell Services will deliver the units today and assist with installation. 16 News Now
- ➤ Workers began construction on the Lakeshore Trail along M63 in Benton Township on July 24 and local officials say the project will give residents a new option for walking and biking—more updates on its progress are expected. 16 News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Elkhart County Homicide Unit reported that 59-year-old Michael E. Hawkins Jr. was arrested Wednesday in connection with the homicide of Anthony Null after his body was found with a gunshot wound in the St. Joseph River on July 18—he is held without bond, formal charges will be filed today, and his initial hearing is set for July 31. ABC 57
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Goshen Community Schools and Startup Moxie have launched a year long entrepreneurship program that helps students network, design business plans and earn college credits. Executive Director Kristine Weimer and Associate Superintendent Alan Metcalfe said the program will build skills for future success—guiding local high school students with real world experience. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Indiana BMV unveiled a new blackout license plate option on Monday after state lawmakers and Governor Braun approved the design. It will be available Aug. 8 for drivers registering vehicles, and those replacing their current plates must visit a branch and pay a $9.50 replacement fee + $45 plate fee. ABC 57
