ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ North River Landing Apartments in Elkhart dealt with the aftermath of a fire that tore through one building late Friday—firefighters from Cleveland, Osolo and Baugo responded and one firefighter was treated for minor injuries—and debris scattered in the area while the American Red Cross helped affected residents. - ➤ A fire at North River Landing in Elkhart left over 10 units affected as firefighters used over half a million gallons of water to extinguish the blaze—one firefighter was treated for heat-related illness while residents lost many belongings and the Red Cross provided meals. ABC 57
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jose Guevara, a 77-year-old man from Goshen, was hit by a vehicle just before 7 a.m. Saturday — he died at the scene on the 57000 block of County Road 13 near Wilshire Boulevard after reportedly stepping into the road. WSBT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ C.A.R.E. University is hosting its annual College Kick-off event for 130 pre-selected high school graduates from Elkhart who will soon head to college. More than 60 students with a GPA above 3.5 will receive a new laptop or reimbursement through a partnership with the AEP Foundation. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Minority Health Coalition will host its Annual Health Fair and Back-2-School event on August 2 at the Tolsol Center in Elkhart from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where free health screenings (vision exams, lead testing, blood pressure and glucose checks, and immunizations) and backpacks for school-aged children will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
