  • Wendy Cruz, a lifelong resident, is urging local businesses and the city to restore Ideal Beach by bringing back attractions like the water slide and mini golf—she hopes for more community events at the venue. City officials have purchased additional land as part of a long-term plan and Mayor Roberson said he will continue investing in parks—aiming to keep the beach active and enjoyable for everyone.  ABC 57
  • The Elkhart Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo will host a community conversation with ND women’s hoops coach Niele Ivey on Aug. 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tolson Center—focusing on health, wellness and mental fitness as part of Leroy Robinson Week while students attend for free and adults pay $20.  16 News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 28, a truck driver from South Bend lost control of his Chevrolet Silverado on U.S. 20 when unsafe lane movement caused the vehicle to roll into two ditches around 4 a.m.; the truck sustained heavy damage and the driver was taken to hospital with back pain.  ABC 57
  • On Saturday morning, 77-year-old Jose Guillen Guevara of Goshen died when a Ford F-150 hit him as he stepped into the road on County Road 13 near Wilshire Boulevard in Elkhart County.  16 News Now
  • On Friday night, firefighters from three departments battled a blaze at North River Landing Apartments on Lexington Avenue near West Side Middle School in Elkhart — displacing 26 residents from 12 apartments, causing about $300,000 in damage, and treating one firefighter for heat-related illness as investigators searched for the cause.  WSBT

  • Goshen Police responded to reports of an armed robbery with a deadly weapon on the 600 block of North Second Street Sunday morning but no arrests were made and the 26-year-old victim was unharmed—social media claims of over 20 arrests were false.  WSBT
