COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BBQ and Brew Fest benefiting Boys and Girls Clubs of Elkhart County will take place this Saturday, Aug. 2 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen; the event will offer burgers, craft beer, live music and kid-friendly activities like a teen basketball tournament, face painting, yard games and bouncy houses in a child-safe, alcohol-free zone.  16 News Now
  • The Boys and Girls Clubs of Elkhart hosted a Lemonade Day Tuesday at four sites to teach youth budgeting, marketing, and customer service — the event showcased the entrepreneurial spirit of local members.  ABC 57

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup towing a boat shut down the Indiana Toll Road in Elkhart County just east of the Middlebury exit — both drivers are being taken to a hospital and authorities say the westbound lanes and one eastbound lane will reopen once a medical helicopter departs.  WSBT
  • Two people were injured when a pickup truck crashed into a semi on the Indiana Toll Road in Elkhart County—authorities are investigating the incident.  16 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Elkhart police charged Nicholas Stanley with murder for shooting Allen Cogswell at Daylite Inn in June—he now faces a misdemeanor gun charge for unlawful possession after a domestic battery conviction and his trial will be set for October.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elkhart County Commissioners will offer guided public tours of the new courthouse at 1905 Reliance Road from August 4 to 8 before it opens for trials later this fall. Tour sessions run Monday from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 12-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — each 60-minute tour starts every 30 minutes and seats up to 30 visitors.  ABC 57
