  • Cultivate Food Rescue and Crowe announced a new partnership on Aug. 1 to expand food rescue operations across Michiana — the groups plan to work together to improve access to healthy meals with further details to be released soon.  16 News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Nappanee man — 64-year-old Jerry Lamb — was killed and his passenger injured when a semi-truck rear-ended his car on US 20 in Elkhart County just east of the US 33 exit before 3:00 p.m. as police investigate the crash.  WSBT
  • Elkhart police responded to a call around 11:53 a.m. Friday when a moped crashed with a car near the Elkhart Grand Prix and burst into flames—both vehicles caught fire and two riders were taken to the hospital as Johnson Street was blocked off between Elkhart Avenue and Baldwin.  ABC 57
  • Two people on a moped were injured after a fiery crash with a car on Johnson Street near Baldwin Street—Elkhart police closed the road and are investigating—and the car's driver and passenger were unharmed.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In Elkhart, Mayor Rod Roberson hosted the Indiana Conference of Mayors that ended yesterday with a go-cart race and discussions focused on Senate Bill 1’s impact on local revenue—other mayors noted Gov. Braun’s tax reform law will likely reduce funds for city services while the city highlighted its Aspire Elkhart downtown redevelopment plan.  ABC 57
  • Downtown Elkhart is hosting the 8th annual Grand Prix and mayor conference this weekend—local officials and community leaders will gather to discuss plans and highlight community achievements.  16 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study by Opera Beds found that Indiana ranked worst for lung health with a score of 4.04 due to low tobacco taxes and coal-fired power plants—experts advise residents to wear masks and stay indoors on days with poor air quality to curb long-term health risks.  ABC 57
