  • Elkhart County Parks announced the second annual disc golf weekend will start Friday at Ox Bow County Park and run through Sunday. The event offers PDGA competitions on Friday, a singles round on Saturday with a free concert beginning at 6 p.m. and a $3 per vehicle entry fee, and a doubles tournament on Sunday.  ABC 57

  • A man was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff at a home on Kansas Drive between Nebraska Drive and Pike Street in Goshen on August 5.  16 News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Elkhart’s 28th EnviroFest will take place Friday at Island Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the free event will feature live music, food, drinks, kids’ activities and vendors promoting sustainability with donations welcomed to support environmental education.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials at INDOT's luncheon described plans to upgrade key routes like US 31, US 20 and US 30 to improve safety and mobility in northern Indiana. In Elkhart County, more than $260 million will be invested from 2026 to 2030 — adding lanes and enhancing rural roads — as officials detailed ongoing projects and public input since 2022.  WSBT
  • Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson said the city faces a potential $40M budget shortfall by 2028 — about one-third of its annual budget — because a new state law will cut property taxes for homeowners. He warned that city services like roads, parks and public safety may be reduced as the financial committee meets today at 5 p.m. and a Goshen Community Schools official reported the bill is already forcing program cuts.  16 News Now
