COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The region’s largest environmental festival kicked off Friday evening on the St. Joseph River at Island Park in Elkhart. EnviroFest, now in its 28th year, features sustainable booths, educational activities, live animals and a silent auction hosted by the Elkhart Environmental Center.  ABC 57
  • The Humane Society of Elkhart County raised over $1 million in a record Best in Show fundraiser — nearly a third of its budget — and will use the funds to help thousands of local animals get a second chance.  16 News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of C.R. 26 and Old C.R. 17 around 12:52 p.m. last Thursday — a 2023 Mazda CX5 driven by 57-year-old Diane Bailey of Goshen turned left in front of a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle driven by a 19-year-old, leaving Bailey with non-life-threatening injuries and a citation for failure to yield while the other driver was unharmed.  ABC 57
  • Deputies from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office responded on Wednesday around 3:10 p.m. on C.R. 19 east of C.R. 21 after a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox (driven by Joshua Dolph of Goshen) left center and struck a 2017 Nissan Rogue (operated by a 62-year-old driver from Bristol) that then hit a NIPSCO pole, with a 28-year-old passenger (also from Bristol) complaining of leg pain and the driver reporting neck pain before Dolph was cited for left of center.  ABC 57

CULTURE NEWS

  • A ribbon cutting on Friday marked the 10-year restoration of the Havilah Beardsley House porch — once home to Elkhart's founding family. Built in 1848 and expanded in 1874, the house now operates as a museum on the Ruthmere campus.  WSBT

  • School officials in Michiana reminded drivers today to slow down and stop for a bus when its warning lights are flashing — the reminder covers safe actions during both morning and afternoon commutes.  16 News Now

  • Elkhart Public Library has named Kristen Edson as its new Executive Director after a national search—she will begin on Oct. 1 and brings experience from her previous roles in Livonia, Chicago, and Baton Rouge.  ABC 57
