  • Brad Priest from the Humane Society of Elkhart County said the Best in Show fundraiser raised over $1 million for the annual event. The record-setting total will boost animal care funding—providing needed support for shelter operations.  16 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Elkhart Police are asking residents to help find 37-year-old Donte Reese who has been missing since July 17 and was last seen in our area — he has black hair and brown eyes.  WSBT
  • Elkhart Police are searching for 37-year-old Donte Ramon Reese, who was last heard from on July 17 and is described as 5'8" tall, 155 lbs with black hair and brown eyes—any information should be reported to the department.  ABC 57
  • A mother of a 6 year old boy who was murdered said she tried to protect him from alleged abuse by contacting the Indiana Department of Child Services in August 2024—investigators later found no evidence of abuse.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elkhart police remind drivers to stop when school buses extend their stop arms as students cross the streets in Indiana and Michigan. Officials warn that ignoring the rule adds eight points to a license (leading to possible suspension or jail) and note that school buses are equipped with cameras (which aid in catching violators).  WSBT
  • The City of Elkhart broke ground on its first new fire station in two decades on Monday- replacing the old Fire Station 6 with a new building on Ada Drive- to expand EMS services in the growing northeast area; the station is expected to be completed by September next year.  WSBT
