BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting to open McKinnies Realty at 1001 Parkway Avenue — the company offers local heroes help with buying, selling, or refinancing homes through the Homes For Heroes program. The business has donated over $2.2 million to firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, military personnel, healthcare workers, and teachers since 2012.  16 News Now
  • Industry leaders gathered Tuesday at the RV/MH Hall of Fame for the MH FacTOURy Summit — they toured factories and attended seminars while Congressman Rudy Yakym discussed manufactured housing's role in the economy. The two-day event resumes today with additional sessions and networking opportunities.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities charged Shawn Akison with additional counts after his blood test detected fentanyl at the time of the New Prairie bus crash—his actions on the road are under investigation.  16 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At Tuesday's Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce luncheon, investment expert Tom Jalic said that national policies including tariffs — trade, deregulation and the One Big Beautiful Bill — are expected to cause a slight slowdown when tariff rates are finalized, but they will help Elkhart grow by the end of 2026.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana's IREAD law required that third graders who did not pass the reading test be retained & local districts are now developing individual learning plans to help these students move forward. State data shows that most students passed the test while exemptions and retention numbers are still being reviewed.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elkhart County held an open house Tuesday evening to collect community ideas for a new park on a 64-acre site along County Road 17 — a survey online remains open until Sept while officials plan to complete designs by early spring next year.  ABC 57

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A former dive bar on South Main Street in downtown Elkhart is set for auction as Metzger Property Service & Keller Williams Realty began online bidding last Friday, with bidding closing on September 15th. The restaurant closed earlier this year, and the auction may bring new buyers to the unique property.  WSBT
