COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Elkhart will host the Art Walk on Aug 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the event features art, live music and local dining and is free for all ages.  ABC 57
  • On Sunday, Walkerton community members helped a local farmer harvest thousands of pounds of produce—he lost a $70,000 farm to school contract due to state budget cuts and could not hire help for his already-planted potatoes.  WSBT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A mobile home on the 1400 block of Labor Day Lane caught fire Saturday afternoon in Elkhart—firefighters controlled the blaze in less than 20 minutes and the family along with their two dogs and two cats escaped unharmed.  WSBT

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday at 1 p.m., a 3-year-old black girl in a red shirt was found near Middlebury Street and Monroe Street, and the Elkhart Police Department seeks help identifying her—anyone with information should call 574-295-7070.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lerner Theatre was honored by the State of Indiana as a recipient of the Governor's Century Award on Aug. 14—celebrating 100 years of live entertainment in downtown Elkhart. The award was presented during a special ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.  ABC 57
  • Downtown Goshen will host the 22nd River Bend Film Festival from Aug. 28 through Aug. 30 at the Goshen Theater. The three-day event features films, free activities and exclusive mixers and offers free popcorn during the Film Indiana block on Aug. 30 from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.—a special treat for local movie fans.  ABC 57

  • Main Street railroad crossing is closed for two weeks beginning today for rebuilding work—drivers must follow detour paths during construction.  ABC 57
