COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Transpo and the South Shore Line are offering rides to the Zach Bryan concert at Notre Dame to help fans get to the event—riders should check schedules ahead of time.  16 News Now
  • On Monday, Mishawaka held a ribbon cutting for Troop Town, a new village built by veterans for veterans that will feature five buildings offering housing, a common space and services such as bus passes and medical help. The project took over 7 years to plan and will move all veterans in by Veterans Day — the first project of its type — with support from local VA clinics and volunteers.  WSBT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • This Labor Day, UAW Local 5 was honored for its early work fighting for fair wages at Studebaker and Bendix and for building a strong middle class—an achievement recognized by union leaders and local workers.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Operation Education is reviewing IREAD scores tonight as schools report major improvements, with Success Academy at the Boys and Girls Club in South Bend showing nearly a 40% rise and statewide third grade proficiency increasing by 5% from last year — Elkhart Community Schools led local gains.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on the Indiana Toll Road must use alternate routes because the Elkhart East toll plaza is closing nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. today until Sept. 29—this closure is part of a series of toll plaza shutdowns throughout Michiana.  16 News Now
