COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sept. 25, Elkhart County Parks will hold the Creatures of the Night program at Benton Dam in River Preserve Park where visitors aged 12 and older will join a guided night hike to learn about spiders. The free event, scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., will feature a talk by spider expert Linda Strain and educational displays — weather permitting.  ABC 57
  • Sunnyside Park hosted New Paris’ annual block party last Saturday — the first time the park held the event since the 1990s — and drew large crowds that boosted local business. More than two dozen food trucks, six bands and a pinball tournament added extra excitement to the festivities.  ABC 57

CULTURE NEWS

  • Elkhart’s Tolson Center will host a Latin Festival—event details such as time and activities will be announced soon.  16 News Now
  • The Tolson Center held its second annual Hispanic Heritage Festival in Elkhart with traditional food, live music (including corridos, norteñas, cumbias, and huapango), and art that brought Latino culture to local residents.  ABC 57
  • Elkhart will host its final ArtWalk on Sept. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.—Main Street will turn into a vibrant showcase with over 20 local artists, and the event will continue with live music at Art Walk After Hours at Hotel Elkhart’s High Note Rooftop Bar from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue sophomore wide receiver Nitro Tuggle from NorthWood High School in Nappanee is drawing praise from his coaches as he makes his best start for Purdue’s offense.  ABC 57
  • NorthWood clinched a last minute overtime win over Northridge 22-21 on Friday at Andrews Field in Nappanee — the victory marked Panthers head coach Nate Andrews’ first home win as his team improved to a 3-2 record while Northridge fell to 0-5. This close game energized the team and set a positive tone for the season.  ABC 57
  • WNDU 16 News Now GAMEDAY team shared keys to the game for the Purdue at Notre Dame matchup and identified players to watch—featuring an interview with Notre Dame’s McKenna Englhardt and defense insights from Chris Zorich. The report also noted that Indiana State Sen. Liz Brown attended Cheer Her Name festivities this weekend to honor women’s sports milestones.  16 News Now
