BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Airlines has launched a motorcoach service that connects South Bend International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport—passengers clear security at South Bend and board a 35-seat luxury bus running four times daily.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Hall of Heroes Garden of Villains Halloween event held in Elkhart featured vendors, the 1989 Batmobile, the Ghost Rider motorcycle, and over 50 cosplayers. Attendees enjoyed a unique mix of classic rides and creative costumes that showcased local spirit.  16 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Elkhart announced it has been awarded $12 million in READI 2.0 funds from the Lilly Endowment to support two redevelopment projects—that will add nearly 400 new housing units and revitalize key areas. City officials said the projects are tied to the Benham Neighborhood Regeneration Initiative and represent over $110 million in total investment—steps set to boost the city as it faces tight budgets.  ABC 57
  • Elkhart Common Council met Monday evening to review the proposed 2026 budget, which cuts nearly $7M from a total just under $119M and came after state law changes under SEA1—no residents spoke during public comment. Councilman Aaron Mishler warned that revenue losses could hit up to $40M by 2028 and urged more local input before the final vote on Oct. 16.  ABC 57
