COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Elkhart Parks and Recreation is preparing for Halloween with events including a trunk or treat at Island Park today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a Not-So-Haunted Woods Walk at Pinewood Park on Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the department will also host pumpkin carving sessions at Woodlawn Nature Center on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 for $8 per pumpkin with advanced registration required.  16 News Now
  • Brad Juneau took over Amish Acres in Nappanee and plans to restore its historic attractions—such as horse-drawn buggy rides, craft booths, a restaurant, and a theater—with a reopening scheduled by Thanksgiving. The property is hiring for all positions as phone lines and websites are reactivated within a week.  WSBT
  • The Garden of Villains Halloween event will be held at Wellfield Botanic Gardens in Elkhart and will feature themed decorations and family-friendly activities—organizers said the celebration will boost local spirit as Halloween nears.  16 News Now

  • Local businesses are offering budget-friendly Halloween options by letting shoppers thrift, rent, or exchange costumes; Plato’s Closet hosts a fall preview event today and Casaday Costume Company rents full costumes for $25 — Unity Gardens also runs a costume exchange drive through Halloween to cut waste.  16 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Naragon barn at Potato Creek State Park is set to be demolished this fall while community groups—using documents from 2000 that rated its historic status—work to delay demolition and raise funds for its preservation. The Department of Natural Resources intends to reuse parts of the barn in the park's nature center, though preservation advocates say saving it in full would better honor its heritage.  WSBT

  • Goshen Airport is hosting Girls with Altitude: Aviation Day for Teen Girls today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the free event offers airplane rides, a rudder-building activity, and a live virtual session with Zara Rutherford to spark leadership and confidence among middle and high school students.  ABC 57
  • Adams High School received $450,000 for its renovation project, and school officials said improvements will begin soon — the funds will update key school facilities.  16 News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame is preparing for today's home game against NC State. Both teams said the contest will be challenging as they expect close play and tough competition.  16 News Now
  • Tonight, the Lakeland Lakers will host the Fairfield Falcons at 7 p.m. in their second-to-last game of the season in Lagrange. The forecast expects a temperature around 65 degrees and a 30% chance of scattered showers from 9 p.m.—a factor that may affect gameplay—after teams have frequently played in mixed weather.  ABC 57
