- ➤ About 580 Goshen customers remain without power after more than 3,100 lost service earlier this afternoon — many traffic lights have stopped working as NIPSCO works to restore power. Restoration times vary across the city while crews address the outage. 16 News Now
- ➤ A local nonprofit will host an inclusive trick‑or‑treat event in Elkhart County Friday to ensure all kids enjoy Halloween traditions—organizers said the event will feature safe and accessible activities. 16 News Now
- ➤ Local officials released a list of Halloween trick-or-treat times across Michiana. In Elkhart, residents will trick-or-treat on Friday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the schedule was compiled with assistance from local news partners and town planners. 16 News Now
- ➤ The City of Elkhart announced a schedule of Halloween events for families with a walk at Pinewood Park today from 5 to 7 p.m., haunted woods at the Environmental Center on Oct. 23 and from Oct. 24 to Oct. 25, a special train ride at the museum on Saturdays, a museum trick or treat and pumpkin carving event at Woodlawn Nature Center on Oct. 25, and a City Hall trick or treat on Oct. 30—residents are encouraged to dress in costumes and join the festivities. - ➤ An Edwardsburg man reunited with the rescuers who saved his life after a fiery crash on Oct. 21—he expressed his gratitude for their lifesaving efforts. 16 News Now
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Baker and Taylor, one of the largest book distributors, shut down after nearly 200 years of business, causing delays in new book arrivals for many Michiana libraries. Elkhart library canceled and reordered around 1,000 items as other libraries switched to a new distributor to avoid setbacks. ABC 57
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ McDonald’s restaurants in Michiana are raising funds for local high school athletic programs today by donating 10% of sales made through the McDonald’s app. Each operator selects a local school — including Elkhart High School — to receive at least $250 in donations. 16 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portage Township officials are concerned that the government shutdown will disrupt SNAP benefits and leave local families at risk. A South Bend food resource said it is bracing for more hunger as officials work to ensure timely support—community support remains essential. 16 News Now
- ➤ The county opened a new roundabout in Granger this week at the busy intersection of Beech Road — Cleveland Road after it had been closed since mid-June for conversion, with officials saying the change will improve traffic flow and safety. 16 News Now

- ➤ The Indiana State Board of Animal Health said it found bird flu in a flock of over 19,000 commercial egg layers in LaGrange County — the fourth case reported there in the past week. - ➤ Officials invite residents to drop off expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday) at designated collection sites to lower overdoses and accidental poisonings.
