  • The 5-2-5 Foundation hosted its annual Say Boo to Drugs event last night in Elkhart—aiming to inform residents about the dangers of drug abuse.  16 News Now
  • A YWCA ceremony held yesterday honored local police officers who work with abuse survivors + the event recognized their dedicated service + it underscored the importance of their role in supporting those in need.  16 News Now
  • At 10 a.m. today, Pam Bingaman, executive director of the Middlebury Food Pantry, will enter the Northridge High School marching band tower to raise $50,000 for a new box truck by moving down a level for every $10,000 raised—this event may last overnight with live updates on social media.  ABC 57
  • An Eagle Scout from Troop 12 restored Eagle Park in Millersburg, which had been deserted for years. He removed old trees, broken fences and hazardous dirt and replaced them with new parking, rubber mulch, wooden fences and a boat themed playset in just four months with help from his grandparents.  ABC 57
  • Elkhart Environmental Center is hosting its sixth annual Haunted Walk Through the Woods, where families can stroll a fully decorated trail and enjoy live music and local vendors — a suggested $5 donation is appreciated. Kids' nights started Thursday at 5 p.m. with a costume parade for all ages and the event runs through Sunday.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office held a free two-week self-defense and empowerment class for women using the national R.A.D program. The course ended on Thursday evening — when participants practiced live scenarios — and the office plans to offer three to four sessions each year for women ages 12 to 99.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn Girls' Cross Country won their 17th straight sectional championship by having all seven runners finish in the top 15 at New Prairie—Head Coach Michael Clemens said the team is one of the favorites at the regional meet and aims to improve on last year's near miss at state.  WSBT
