COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Teal Pumpkin Project is helping Michiana children with food allergies enjoy Halloween by encouraging households to offer non-food treats (such as rubber ducks and pop-it toys) so kids can trick-or-treat safely. Many families share personal stories that highlight the need for allergen-safe festivities for all children.  16 News Now
  • Woodlawn Nature Center in Elkhart will celebrate 60 years with family activities — guided hikes and local food trucks will offer guests fun ways to enjoy the special event.  16 News Now
  • The Food Bank of Northern Indiana will host mobile food pantries on Nov. 5th at LaCrosse Apostolic Christian Church, on Nov. 13th at the Starke County Fairgrounds, and on Nov. 20th at San Pierre Town Park—distributions run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST and will offer free boxes of assorted food items while supplies last.  16 News Now
  • The Science Spooktacular event began Friday at the Elkhart 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen and runs through today. Hosted by the E3 Robotics Center and American Chemical Society — the event offers interactive STEAM exhibits, a Sky Dome Planetarium, and a haunted photo booth with $5 admission per person and free entry for children under 5.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Communities in Michiana celebrated Halloween by providing candy options for children with food intolerances—organizers said the allergen-safe treats helped ensure everyone enjoyed the festivities.  16 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Americans are projected to spend an estimated 13.1 billion dollars on Halloween candy, costumes and decorations, up from 11.6 billion dollars in 2024 — 73% plan to celebrate — as many Michiana residents save money by reusing decorations while others set up elaborate displays for trick-or-treaters.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fairfield High School opened its new fieldhouse with a ribbon cutting on Thursday— the facility will host practices, events, and later community activities such as walking and pickleball.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bird flu was detected at a commercial breeder duck facility in Elkhart County today—more than 6,000 ducks are affected and similar cases have been reported in LaGrange County.  WSBT

  • Boston College's Eagles will face a tough test against ND running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price—who are expected to be the best duo they will face this season—in an upcoming game.  16 News Now
