ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple fire departments are battling a large tire fire at a recycling plant on County Road 2 in Entech near Middlebury following a call just after 1:30 p.m.+ officials report no injuries and nine fire crews are on scene.  16 News Now

  • Hotel Elkhart and The Lerner Theatre have partnered for a dog-friendly getaway package called 'Mutts Gone Nuts – Unleashed!' which offers two tickets, an overnight stay at the pet-friendly hotel near the theatre, breakfast for two, and discounts for those who bring dog food and care items; the event is set for tonight and features a performance by a dozen talented dog performers.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The CASIE Center started its 'Here Today, Ready for Tomorrow' campaign on November 13 to help families in St. Joseph County keep children in school every day—offering resources and community support to overcome attendance barriers.  16 News Now
  • On November 13, community members met at the Boys & Girls Club in South Bend to learn how school vouchers offer financial help for sending children to private or out-of-district schools. Officials noted that over 4,700 students left South Bend public schools, with 450 from Elkhart—reducing district funding.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government has reopened and SNAP benefits are now being paid, easing concerns for local recipients who received only partial funds during the shutdown.
