  • WNDU-TV is hosting its 31st annual Toys for Tots collection drive on Saturday, Dec. 6 — broadcast live from sites in South Bend, Elkhart, Warsaw and Stevensville. Volunteers will safely accept new, unwrapped toy donations from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. to benefit local children.  16 News Now
  • The 29th annual Stuff a Truck food drive will address rising food needs in Michiana and local organizers invite donations from residents + the event aims to collect food for families in need.  16 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Epic Dance Studios will perform its 'Epic Holidaze!' show at The Lerner Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.—the festive performance will feature multiple dance styles and Duke Ellington's 'Harlem Nutcracker' music as part of Elkhart's Winterfest.  16 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Cosette Fox, a Holy Cross College psychology professor, traveled to Poland last month to help Ukrainian refugees overcome war trauma by teaching Project Personality to both refugee families and local professionals—ensuring ongoing support, and she said the program will next expand to Taiwan.  16 News Now

  • St. Joseph County Surveyor Derek Dieter announced his pitch for public use of Portage Manor property—he outlined plans that county officials will soon review for community benefit. Officials expect to consider various options as the proposal moves forward.  16 News Now
  • On November 18, the Cleveland Township Fire Department began a three-year contract that gives firefighters competitive wages, guaranteed raises, and paid leave for family and military needs along with a shift schedule of 24 hours on and 72 hours off. The agreement—reached after 11 months of talks—aims to support their physical and mental health.  WSBT
