- ➤ Wellfield Botanic Gardens opened its ninth Winter Wonderland Holiday Lights display with 1.8 million lights lighting the gardens and a half mile walk where visitors can enjoy hot cocoa at a catering tent — horticulture staff work daily to keep every light running properly. The display will be open on select dates through January 3. 16 News Now

- ➤ Aurinko Ballet will perform a fresh rendition of The Nutcracker today at The Lerner Theatre in Elkhart—presenting a new twist on the familiar ballet. 16 News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH for Elkhart and nearby counties from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, as heavy snow and icy roads are expected to reduce visibility and cause travel delays—residents should leave early and drive carefully. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health experts warn that shoveling the heavy wet snow this weekend can strain the heart because cold weather narrows blood vessels. Tim Hamms from the American Heart Association advised shoveling a few inches at a time and not shoveling after a heavy meal to reduce the risk of heart problems. WSBT
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former South Bend Clay basketball star Jaraan Cornell, known for his key three-pointer in the 1994 state title game, will be posthumously inducted—one of 17 inductees in the Class of 2026—into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame this March. Warsaw's Rick Fox, who enjoyed an NBA career with championship wins, is also honored as part of the same class. 16 News Now
