Good morning, Elkhart.

Elkhart’s Winterfest starts on Saturday downtown with family-friendly activities (an ugly sweater run, tree lighting ceremony, and breakfast with Santa).

The Center for the Homeless hosted its annual holiday miracle luncheon in Michiana, providing a warm meal and support to local community members (a festive gathering) during the holiday season.

Officials said the event highlighted a spirit of giving in the community.

With frigid weather arriving, the Red Cross advises residents to wear layers including a hat, gloves, water-resistant boots and a scarf — essential for warmth.

The advisory urges keeping flammable items three feet from heaters and not using ovens to heat homes to avoid fire and carbon monoxide risks.

NewsBeacon Health reminds Elkhart patients to schedule year-end health screenings as local clinics still offer preventative care appointments before 2026.

Health experts advise booking soon to catch potential issues early.
