COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price partnered with the Salvation Army on its Angel Tree program (a holiday gift initiative) to support local families in need. The program will provide holiday gifts and resources to children across the area.  16 News Now
  • Sunny 101.5 and Zolman Tire have partnered to launch Operation Poinsettia in Michiana, a community campaign to spread holiday cheer. Additional event details, including location and schedule, are expected to be announced soon.  16 News Now
  • Special Olympics Indiana will host the 2026 Polar Plunge, a fundraiser for athlete programs with multiple plunge locations across the state. Regional director Barb Michalos (Northwest Indiana) said community registration will open soon.  16 News Now
  • Operation Poinsettia launched Friday morning when Sunny 101.5 and Zolman Tire delivered over 200 poinsettias to local senior centers across Michiana (a gesture to brighten the holiday season for older adults). Both companies plan for this act of kindness to become a long-standing tradition.  16 News Now

  • Jaworski’s Market confirmed that Friday and Saturday are its final days under current family ownership, offering a weekend closeout sale for customers. The store will complete its transition at the end of today.  16 News Now
  • Sweet G's Ice Cream in Nappanee earned a Blue Ribbon from the North American Ice Cream Association for its chocolate flavor — a top honor in the 2025 National Ice Cream Awards.  16 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Elkhart marks 100 years of Lerner Theater this weekend with a free musical performance at 2 p.m. at the Lerner and a time capsule closing that displays historic items downtown. Organizers also hold a food drive for Church Community Services ahead of a movie premiere on Dec. 21.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Saint Joseph Health system hosted its 22nd annual Senior Holiday Meal drive on Dec. 12 (at several local sites) to provide holiday meals for seniors. The initiative supported community seniors during the holiday season.  16 News Now
  • Local health experts say that although Elkhart County has not seen a COVID-19 spike this winter, cold weather and indoor gathering could lead to more respiratory illness — updated CDC maps show stable trends in Indiana even as nearby areas report rises. Residents are advised to update vaccines.  WSBT
