- ➤ Gymtown Food Pantry is set to open its Rapid Response Food Bank at 10 a.m. Wednesday after a lapse in SNAP benefits prompted an early launch to support local food pantries. The daily hub will allow partner pantries to restock supplies while households needing food assistance continue their usual visits. ABC 57
- ➤ The Tolson Center in Elkhart held a ribbon cutting yesterday to unveil its new $16 million outdoor expansion (featuring an ADA accessible playground, basketball and pickle ball courts, plus a full-length soccer field), which is open during regular business hours. ABC 57
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Families gathered Thursday at Goodwill Excel Center to keep the Día de los Muertos spirit alive with candy, costumes, and resource tables from local advocacy groups. The event also connected organizations that offer healthcare access to Hispanic residents. ABC 57
- ➤ Elkhart celebrated Lerner Theatre’s 100th anniversary on Sunday with a time capsule dedication + musical in downtown, highlighting a century of local history. WSBT
- ➤ Goshen native Abbie Thomas won two Josie Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 2, taking home Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for her album Not Gonna Lie (she also reached the first round of the Grammy ballot for her single featuring Corey Ronell). ABC 57
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hart City Coffee, an extension of the Young Adult Program, teaches special needs students ages 18 to 22 how to count money, brew coffee, and serve customers in Elkhart, and builds social skills through hands-on work. ABC 57
- ➤ Students at Concord East Side Elementary School set up a Field of Flags today in partnership with Disabled American Veterans to honor veterans and raise funds for sick and injured veterans — their first year in the campaign, according to teacher Vanessa Veile. ABC 57
- ➤ Goshen High School is training future firefighters at the RedHawk Fire Academy tonight. The program, run in partnership with the Goshen Fire Department and held at the Chandler Career and Technical Center (with real firefighting equipment), offers classroom and field instruction to prepare students for state tests.
