BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chick-fil-A on County Road 6 in Elkhart offered a free breakfast giveaway on July 16th from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.—customers received one Chicken Biscuit when they mentioned free breakfast at the time of their order.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Concord Community Schools announced that Jeff Petty has been selected as the new principal of Concord High School pending school board approval on August 4, and he has served as a math teacher and assistant principal at the school since 2018 + he also coached sports teams.  ABC 57
  • Concord High School has named Jeff Petty as its new principal pending board approval—Petty previously served as an assistant principal—and he will start his job in the upcoming school year. This change comes as the school prepares for a fresh leadership transition.  WSBT
  • New Prairie United School District officials asked lawmakers to clarify background check rules after LifeWise Academy set plans to pull students off school grounds for Bible classes — the district is considering policy changes to better protect student safety.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The St. Joseph County Health Department is reapplying for the Safety PIN Grant—funding programs like home visits and free maternal classes—to support local moms and babies. Data from last month show the state’s infant mortality rate in 2024 dropped to 6.3 deaths per 1,000 live births, yet challenges remain in the county.  ABC 57
  • Saint Joseph Health System acquired the Mishawaka Medical Office Building on Douglas Road on Tuesday, July 15. The four-story building houses more than 20 clinics and a parking garage to help expand local health services.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Chet Waggoner Little League is preparing for the Indiana State Championship with a free tournament and an opening ceremony today at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers are setting up tents, water stations, and cooling areas to keep players safe while police monitor the facility to prevent further vandalism.  WSBT
  • David Letherman and Louis Kissinger from Elkhart County have worked at IMS for nearly a decade managing race day operations and safety; Kissinger, as general manager of IMS Operations, and Letherman, as senior director, will be key in running the Brickyard 400 on July 27—providing a smooth event experience for fans.  16 News Now
